Trail Of Tears Ride

from: Deb St. George, Publisher, Cherokee-Legends.com

The Trail of Tears Remembrance Motorcycle Ride, Sept. 19, 2009 is a ride to raise public awareness of the forced removal of the first people of the region now known as the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

In the 1830's over 17,000 men, women and children of the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek and Seminole nations were forcibly removed from their homes and marched to the Oklahoma territory. Over 4,000 of the people perished along the trail named "The Trail Where They Cried."

This event has grown from a hand full of dedicated motorcycle riders to an event described by Easyrider magazine as "the largest motorcycle Ride in the country if not the largest in the world."

Trail of Tears Remembrance Motorcycle Ride

The event was awarded Event of the Year in 2002 by The Alabama Tourism Commission.  The ride attracts people from all over the world with most coming not only for the ride but to be part of the statement that these people will not be forgotten,  that indeed this must not be forgotten lest it happen again. If you have a creative mind you can help this year.

2011 Ride Sept. 17
- Trail of Tears Remembrance Motorcycle RideThe only ride that leaves Chattanooga, TN the third Saturday in September.
